Most individuals visit the dentist as a result of pain or discomfort, when decay or periodontal disease may have already progressed to a critical stage. Routine cleanings and exams take a more proactive approach to oral care.

Hygiene Education

During routine cleanings and exams, patients learn whether they are inadvertently worsening the condition of their teeth. Educating our patients about the many factors that contribute to decay and periodontal disease is a major part of our preventive care philosophy.

Diagnostic X-rays

X-rays are important diagnostic tools used to detect decay, periodontal infections and abscesses, as well as bone loss. Yearly bitewing x-rays are important, since decay and other conditions may be assymptomatic. A full-mouth set of x-rays should be taken every three to five years to examine the entire mouth and all the teeth.
